Inkscape rounded rectangle11/12/2023 ![]() ![]() No, I think you're asking for a god, lol. ![]() But for a program (like inkscape) to write a new program which is unknown to the original program. Could one program ever write other programs? I guess it could, if the other program is known. ![]() I don't know how any program could be written (like Inkscape) that could write a program for a tool for any random shape. Drag the visible node upwards ( to bigger size) until you have also round inner corners. You can draw for example a 3 sided polygon holding Ctrl at the same time. Not that I really know what those goals are.īut I just can't get past the idea of drawing any random shape, then clicking a button and automatically have a new tool that would make that shape. Remove the fill, and set a stroke thinner than before (thin enough to see the inside corners rounded) Draw a triangle. After you have your shape switch to the Edit Paths by Nodes tool ( N ) and click on the shape. Remember to draw a square hold down ( Ctrl ) to lock to ensure all sides will be even. Whether it’s a square or rectangle, the same process works for both. And I'm not sure if it would fall into the development goals for Inkscape. How to Round Corners on a Square or Rectangle First, draw out your desired shape in Inkscape. I think that a feature that would allow someone to draw a shape, and then click a button to have a new tool automatically created, that would draw that shape, would be quite a sophisticated feature indeed. Most Inkscape users don't have those skills. You want to draw a shape and have a tool magically created that would draw more of those shapes? I guess you'd pretty much have to know programming to create new tools. I think druban's suggestion of using Symbols is more what you're thinking of (although I haven't seen that feature yet). I don't have Word on this machine, but I've used it in the past, and I don't remember any shape having the sophistication of an Inkscape tool. You can make them larger or smaller, or maybe skew them. Word has a lot of different shapes, but I don't think you can do much with them. What if you could add your own designed basic shapes next to ellipse and rectangle tool, that you can later modify with such handles? How to do that? You can set the parameters by the shape's handles -as the rounded corners of the rectangle or the star's spikes. As the mentioned word has plenty of basic shapes, all with parameters. Lazur URH wrote:I was thinking of a way to "predefine" your own shapes. It's also up to you to make sure the sides are straight. Note that when you want to resize this path in a non proportional way you will have to drag each PAIR of corner nodes to its new location. Now CTRL ALT A to select all the nodes in all the sub-paths. This should flip the arcs into your desired orientation. Now you have four straight lines and four lovely little quarter circle arcs.Ĭlick on each arc, press V, then H. Hold down ctrl and drag the little circular handles to round the corners circularly. Try to snap it to the grid when doing so! I like this way a bit better than the circles because the nodes in the result are more precisely positioned.Ĭreate a rectangle. Here's an alternative way to achieve your object. Showing and snapping to the grid makes things much easier, as does using ctrl-drag. You will notice little handles attached to the node, drag them around.Once you edit your rectangle resizing and keeping your corners circular (rather than elliptical) becomes a chore. To get a round shape experiment for example with the Make selected nodes symmetric or the other buttons. To create a dent like in the picture you need more nodes:Ĭlick the upper connecting line of the rectangle (step 1 in image below) and click the Insert new nodes into selected segments button (step 2) (be aware that you will only see this button when you select the Edit paths by nodes tool)Īfter, simply drag one node "inside" the rectangle (step 1 in image below). You will loose the special properties of the Rectangle tool (F4) (you won't have the vertical rounding button any more) but now you'll be able to edit the object with the Edit paths by nodes tool (F2). Transform it to a path ( Path > Object to Path). If it is, here is how to do (or any other indent):ĭraw your rectangle with the Create Rectangles and Squares tool. ![]()
